These little reprints of older books are excellent. I have collected quite a few of them and each one is packed with tips, tricks and how-to's. They are assuming that you have the most basic millinery experience, so if you are a dedicated milliner these books probably would not interest you except for vintage style information. If you are new to millinery, or if you want to learn, I highly recommend these reprints. The instructions are generally sufficient to get you through the construction and on your way to hat making. The books also presume you are a homemaker so they give you instructions to make these hats using things that would be readily available to everyone. Many of the patterns in these books date from the mid 1900's but the vast majority can easily tweeked to get you as far back in time as the 1860 civil war era. Once you know how to make the basic millinery frames, there is no limit to the adaptations that can be made to fit a particular era. I was extremely disappointed with this reproduction of the 1950 edition in that a total of 19 plates were missing or cut off, and 7 photographs were missing or cut off. As this is a 'how to' book this rendered many of the techniques difficult or impossible to follow. I returned this book for a refund rather than a replacement in case others were faulty as this obviously was a production problem and being already out of pocket due to shipping expenses did not want to exacerbate the problem.
